The Minister of the Interior in the Government of National Accord, Fathi Bashagha, discussed with the German ambassador to Libya, Oliver Owcza, political developments and ways to resolve the Libyan crisis.

The meeting of Bashagha and the German ambassador, which was held at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, “reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of security, and the two sides also discussed developments in the political situation inside Libya,” a statement by the Tripoli-based Interior Ministry said.

The ministry added that the German ambassador expressed his country’s desire to resolve the Libyan crisis “politically without foreign interference,” while Bashagha expressed his “appreciation to the German government for its standing and support for resolving the Libyan crisis in all its stages.”

Bashagha said in a tweet after the meeting that his discussion with the German ambassador “focused on security, political solutions, and the need to remove Russian mercenaries to ensure a united and stable Libya.”

While Owcza also said on Twitter, he was “impressed by (Bashagha’s) focus on Libyan unity and professional security. We agreed that all – national and international – efforts should be directed on a successful UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue!”
