Imprison order against the Chairman of Afriqiyah Airways over corruption charges

The Investigation Department of the Libyan Attorney General’s Office issued an order to imprison the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afriqiyah Airways, Mustafa Maatouq, on charges of inflicting serious damage to public money.

The Libyan supervisory authorities had recently arrested several officials in the Government of National Accord, on the background of charges related to corruption, appropriation of public money, and abuse of power.

Afriqiyah Airways is a government-based airline, under the Ministry of Transportation. The company is headquartered at Mitiga International Airport. Its flights also depart from the airports of Misrata and Benghazi. It operates domestic flights in Libya and international flights to Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, and Niger.
