France welcomes arrest of human trafficker

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – France has welcome the decision of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) to arrest an infamous human trafficker.

Abdel Rahaman Milad, also known as Bedja, heads the regional unit of GNA’s Coast Guard in Zawiya, which is linked with violence against migrants, human trafficking and fuel smuggling.

The United Nations placed him in the sanctions list in 2018 after a UN Panel of Experts reported that he, and other coastguard members, are directly involved in operation related to the trafficking and smuggling of migrants.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Embassy of France in Libya said it “congratulates the Libyan Ministry of Interior for the arrest of the so-called Abdel Rahman Milad, in implementation of the decisions of the Libyan judiciary and the sanctions committee of the United Nations Security Council”.

The French Embassy stressed that the fight against human trafficking crimes is “necessary” in Libya and around the world.
