JMC agrees to resume cross-city movement & expel mercenaries

SIRTE – The 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, composed of military officers of Libya’s warring parties, has concluded its meetings in Sirte on Thursday.

In a press conference, the committee said that cross-city movement will resume as first stage of the agreement.

The second stage includes the withdrawal of fighters of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) back to the capital, and those of the Libyan National Army (LNA) back to Benghazi.

The committee underscored that all mercenaries must leave Libyan territories.

According to the Joint Military Committee, the security arrangements that were agreed upon will be implemented by a sub-committee, adding that the Joint Military Committee itself will conduct a new meeting “as soon as possible”.

The 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee is a military committee proposed by the UN, which includes 5 members appointed each by LNA and GNA. The committee is part of  the military track of the UN’s peace process in Libya.
