Syrian mercenary accused of crimes in Libya killed in Azerbaijan

TRIPOLI – A Turkey-backed Syrian mercenary, who has been accused of committing war crimes in Libya, was killed in Azerbaijan, reports say.

Khaled Al-Jassem, who is leading figure of the so-called Sultan Suleiman Shah militant group, was killed in Artsakh province by his fellow militants over “personal disagreements”, according to sources from inside the militant group.

Al-Jassem was among thousands of Syrian mercenaries who were payed and armed by Turkey to fight against the Libyan National Army (LNA) during the 2019-2020 Western Libya military campaign.

He was accused of killing a number of Libyans detained in prisons run by Libyan militias in Tripoli.
