GERMANY – Turkey has prevented German military ship within Irini group from inspecting Turkish cargo ship believed to be carrying weapons and military vehicles bound for Misrata, Libya, according to Der Spiegel news agency.

These Turkish moves in Libya came two days after a meeting between the commander of the Irini operation, Admiral Fabio Agostini, with the Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, during which Agostini confirmed that the Irini operation aims to stop all types of illegal arms trafficking at sea, air and land, and pave the way for effective diplomacy, leading to peace and stability in Libya.

It is noteworthy that the European Union announced the launch of the Irini operation early last April, to monitor the arms embargo on Libya and implement the outcomes of the Berlin International Conference on North African country.
