The Address | Benghazi – Libya

ANKARA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he discussed with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu the situation in Libya.

Lavrov confirmed, in a joint press conference held in Russia with his Turkish counterpart on Tuesday, that he discussed with Cavusoglu the situation in Libya, stressing the importance of resolving the crisis there in cooperation with all concerned parties.

For his part, the Turkish Foreign Minister said that not the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, or any other country, has the right to demand Turkey to leave Libya and stop its support for the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).

It is noteworthy that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar had affirmed during a speech he delivered at a ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of Libya’s independence, that there is no value for Libya’s independence as long as the Turkish army occupies parts of the country.

During his speech, LNA Commander called on the Turkish army to leave and evacuate peacefully and voluntarily or by force.
