Operation Irini & Frontex boost cooperation

BRUSSELS – Operation Irini and Frontex will boost their cooperation to exchange information, data, analyses and satellite images.

The agreement was signed during a videoconference by Admiral Fabio Agostini, commander of the operation, and by Fabrice Leggeri, the executive director of Frontex, according to a statement of the EU mission.

The cooperation will help exchange information on merchant ships suspected of violating an arms embargo against Libya, as well as strengthen the promotion of European standards of integrated management of borders, in particular for the training of the Libyan Navy and coast guards.
