GNA closes schools for 2 weeks to avoid COVID-19 infections

TRIPOLI – The Ministry of Education of the Government of National Accord (GNA) on Wednesday decided to close all schools in the country for two weeks to avoid COVID-19 infections.

The decision was made “so that field teams can assess the readiness of all schools” to safely resume study, the ministry said, confirming that only final examinations for preparatory students will be allowed to take place during the two weeks.

The Ministry of Education reopened schools on Jan. 2, after months of closure as precautionary measure against the pandemic.

According to the National Center for Disease Control of Libya, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Libya so far is 111,124, including 88,930 recoveries and 1,715 fatalities.
